Compress a PDF to 100 KB, 200 KB, 500 KB or 1 MB
"File must be under 200 KB" is a common rule on application forms. This guide shows how to hit a size exactly, and what to do when a scan will not go that small.
How the size target works
Compress PDF has a "Fit under" field in megabytes: 0.1 for 100 KB, 0.2 for 200 KB, 0.5 for 500 KB, 1 for 1 MB. Orihako starts with your chosen level and tries stronger settings until the file is under the target.
If even the strongest setting cannot reach it, the page says so and gives you the smallest result.
Steps
- Open Compress PDF and drop the file.
- Type the size in "Fit under", slightly below the limit (0.18 for a 200 KB limit).
- Press Run, then open the result at 100% to check the text.
When it will not go small enough
- Small sizes suit text documents. A full-colour photo page rarely fits in 100 KB and stays readable.
- Scan again in black and white, or crop the margins first.
- Split the document and upload the parts separately if the form allows it.
