When to use it

France's ANTS (driving licence, ID card and passport applications online) accepts PDF, JPEG or PNG attachments of at most 1 MB each, one of the tightest limits around (as of September 2026; check the application screen). This recipe puts photos and scans on A4 pages, removes blank pages and compresses hard to 0.9 MB with margin. Check on screen that it is still readable before you save.
